JOB TITLE: Facility Engineer

Reports To: Director of Events & Operations

Supervises: Part-Time Engineering Staff, Third-Party Vendors

Status: Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt 


Manage, supervise, coordinate and perform the maintenance of the venue, equipment and grounds for the convention center. Provide highly responsible staff assistance to the Director of Events & Operations.

JOB DUTIES (Including, but not limited to): 

  • Provide overall management of services and activities involved in the maintenance and operations of the venue including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, trades and grounds keeping
  • Coordinate with Utah County Public Works Department to ensure that the services that they are providing for the convention center are taken care of in a timely manner and do not negatively affect the operation of events.
  • Select, train, motivate and evaluate Part-Time Engineering personnel as needed; provide or coordinate staff training and safety programs; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures as necessary in conjunction with HR.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of assigned programs and functions
  • Assist in establishing and monitoring work performance and safety standards
  • Assign work activities, projects and work orders; monitor work flow; inspect work product of contractors to ensure accuracy and timeliness of completion; meet with staff to review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures and to identify and resolve challenges
  • Ensure compliance with the facility’s maintenance standards and reporting requirements; assist in managing the facility’s use of the MicroMain program
  • Forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, supplies, and utilities; monitor and obtain approval for all maintenance related expenditures; receive and maintain supplies; make recommendations for, and implement approved budget adjustments as necessary
  • Run electrical service and pick up for events including for exhibitors who both order in advance or onsite the day of the event
  • Assist the Director of Operations & Events in directing and monitoring the work of contractors, engineers, and vendors on building projects
  • Maintain cost records of work performed and prepare cost estimates as requested; prepare invoices for services rendered that are to be used in event settlement
  • Develop and maintain accountings for labor, materials and utilities by event and cost category
  • Maintain hazardous materials communication program, material safety data sheets and required records and permits as required
  • Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with relevant federal, state and local regulations
  • Assist in developing and maintaining Capital Improvement Project reports and recommendations for the venue and assist in overseeing execution of Capital Improvement Projects.
  • Assist in administering maintenance and service contracts (i.e. HVAC, elevators, pest control, landscape maintenance, fire systems, etc.)
  • Conduct a variety of industry related operational studies; recommend modifications to programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate; implement approved modifications
  • Schedule & program HVAC system on an ongoing basis
  • Must be available to help as needed with all other aspects of events
  • Perform other duties as required



Knowledge Of:  

  • Operational characteristics, services and activities of venue maintenance programs including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and grounds keeping
  • HVAC systems, water-cooled chillers, cooling towers, VAV boxes, AHU’s, fan coil units, boilers, DX systems, etc.
  • Repair and maintenance in various other maintenance related functions including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, trades, grounds keeping, and interior aesthetic finishes
  • OSHA and ADA issues
  • Principles of supervision and training
  • Relevant federal, state, and local regulations
  • Customer Service practices
  • Microsoft Office applications and to effectively operate the computer based building management and building automation systems


Ability To:  

  • Manage multiple maintenance and event related projects simultaneously
  • Work effectively in a service oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities
  • Work under high pressure in meeting urgent deadlines
  • Plan, direct, and evaluate the work of subordinates
  • Provide leadership to maintenance personnel
  • Drive and operate forklifts, scissor lifts, etc.
  • Analyze challenges, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of organizational objectives
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors and venue users
  • Work a flexible schedule including early mornings, days, evenings, late nights, weekends, holidays, extended (long) work days and extended numbers of days as required




              Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in facility maintenance 


Education / Training:  

 High school diploma or equivalent GED with additional specialized training in the maintenance of HVAC, electrical or related facility systems 


Licenses or Certificates:  

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a Utah driver’s license
